(History of CGL) / Mission Statement

Charleston Gem Labs was opened in 1980 by a young man named Dennis Wolfe. The store opened strictly for diamond and colored stone appraising, but as Mr. Wolfe's reputation grew, so did the demand for his store to carry quality merchandise. He then decided that the only merchandise that he would offer his customers would be designed and handmade by none other than Mr. Wolfe himself.

"In making my own merchandise I can whole heartily assure that my customers are getting the best quality for their money".

So Charleston Gem Labs as we know it today was born. Twenty years later Mr. Wolfe will still come out and personally thank you for your business and make sure your visit in his store and his web site was to your satisfaction.

Dennis Wolfe started in the jewelry business over 26 years ago, working in a local retail store. After receiving a certification in Gemology from the Gemological Institute of America, he decided it was time to open his own store. Shortly after, he began apprenticing with Master Goldsmiths. Now a Master Goldsmith himself, he looks forward to bringing his imagination to life every day.

The Charleston Gem Labs staff consist of a family friend, Martha, who is the office manager and Dennis' daughter Erica, who has been trained in jewelry design. The store itself offers an extensive line of loose diamonds, engagement rings, wedding bands, diamond earrings and pendants and our own line of Charleston and Nautical themed jewelry.
